It’s mid-week and everything is the same except I FINISHED MY BOOK! It’s launching March 15! If you’re an e-reader kind of person, it’s currently available for preorder on Amazon. It’s my small contribution to the world and I’m proud of it. On the 15th, the print version becomes available as well. I have plans to make an audio version, but that’s a separate project so it will be some time.
Oh secondly - I have neglected to mention that I have started an additional blog. It is a private, approved-members-only, but free, experience. It’s about being a special needs mom. I don’t advertise because it isn’t there for me to get famous or known. It’s there for me as witness to my experience, and it is also there for someone who may really be struggling, somebody who needs to feel seen. So if you know somebody like that or you are somebody like that you are welcome. It’s here. Word of caution - this one is kinda heavy. I have given myself permission to be as sad and angry as I want to there. So I actually don’t recommend reading it. How’s that for a tout: “Don’t read this!” Why am I even mentioning it at all?
Today I am really grateful for a few things:
Connecting with some dear friends today. And just having friends dear enough to connect with.
I got Leo a little magazine about autism. It’s actually for adults. (He’s recently become very aware of being autistic and has had a lot of questions.) He chooses to read it, every night, for his 2nd grade reading practice. It makes me feel happy that he’s learning how to talk to himself about his own needs, and also learning how to talk about his experience to others. It makes me less happy that he says the reason he reads it is because it’s important for him to be able defend himself when people get upset with his behavior. But he’s also right that he needs this skill. These are the moments when I dare to whisper to myself, maybe it will really all be okay.
I’m grateful for all the little successes here and there. I’m grateful I get to feed the little dopamine monster in my brain all these wonderful delightful projects.
I’m grateful for people who’ve supported me and entertained all my flights of fancy.
Thank you for being here.
-Cathy
